How to Hire the Right Cab That Completes Your Tour

1. Leh Local Sightseeing & Sham Valley

If your tour includes this route , you should hire:

Sedans/Hatchbacks = Easy.

High Ground Clearance SUVs (4×2) = Easy.

High Ground Clearance SUVs (4×4) = Easy.

2. Leh – Khardungla – Nubra Valley – Leh

If your tour includes this route, you should hire:

Sedans/Hatchbacks = Easy (Nubra Valley) but Manageable (South Pullu – Khardung La – North Pullu), Very Tough in early summers.

High Ground Clearance SUVs (4×2) = Easy to Manageable, tough in early summers

High Ground Clearance SUVs (4×4) = Easy to Manageable.

So, when traveling in a car to Leh – Ladakh, know that Nubra Valley is mostly manageable by small cars.

3. Leh – Karu – Shakti – Chang La – Durbuk – Tangste – Pangong Tso (Lukung)

If your tour includes this route, you should hire:

Sedans/Hatchbacks = Easy to Manageable, at least the climb up/down for Chan ing La and Lukung to Spangmik.

High Ground Clearance SUVs (4×2) = Easy to Manageable, tough in early summers.

High Ground Clearance SUVs (4×4) = Easy to Manageable.

4. Leh – Upshi – Chumathang – Mahe – Sumdo – Kiagar Tso – Tso Moriri (Korzok)

If your tour includes this route , you should hire:

Sedans/Hatchbacks = Easy to Manageable but can be tough in early summers.

High Ground Clearance SUVs (4×2) = Mostly Easy.

High Ground Clearance SUVs (4×4) = Mostly Easy without 4×4.

Remember, when traveling in a car during your Ladakh tour, Tso Moriri is mostly manageable by small cars.

5. Pangong Tso (Spangmik) – Man – Merak – Chusul – Tsaga – Loma – Nyoma – Mahe – Sumdo – Kiagar Tso – Tso Moriri (Korzok)

If your tour includes this route ,you should hire:

Sedans/Hatchbacks = Mostly tough from Spangmik to Tsaga La, chances of getting stuck but Easy to Manageable after Tsaga Village.

High Ground Clearance SUVs (4×2) = Manageable, Tough at some sections when slush and ice are present on it.

High Ground Clearance SUVs (4×4) = Manageable, Tough without 4×4 but Manageable with 4×4.

Hence, if you are traveling to Ladakh in a small car, it will be tough for your driver to traverse the direct route from Pangong Tso to Tso Moriri.

6. Nubra Valley – Agham – Wari La – Shakti – Chang La – Durbuk – Tangste – Pangong Tso (Lukung)

If your tour includes this route , you should hire:

High Ground Clearance SUVs (4×2) = Manageable, Tough in early summers.

High Ground Clearance SUVs (4×4) = Manageable, Tough in early summers without 4×4.

Traveling via a car to Leh Ladakh and taking the direct route from Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso via Wari La will be a tough route in a small car.

7. Nubra Valley – Agham – Shyok Village – Durbuk – Tangste – Pangong Tso (Lukung)

If your tour includes this route , you should hire:

Sedans/Hatchbacks = Tough to very tough, at times car killer too.

High Ground Clearance SUVs (4×2) = Tough, maybe car killer when water flows heavily in July, August.

High Ground Clearance SUVs (4×4) = Manageable to Tough even with 4×4 in some sections.

This route should only be undertaken in a high ground clearance vehicle on a car-drive journey to Leh Ladakh. Traveling the direct road from Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso in a compact automobile may cause problems.

8. Loma – Hanle – Charchaghan La – Chumur – Tso Moriri (Korzok)

If your tour includes this route, you should hire:

Do not  particularly decide to travel in a tiny car, for this route . Hire a SUV or big cab for these places . 

Given the lack of a road, this isolated Ladakh route in Changthang goes on a gravel road. 

With the exception of a few sections, Loma to Hanle is in fine shape. It does have some terrible spots where traveling in a low-ground-clearance vehicle is exceedingly difficult.
